Peru has one of the lowest rural electrification rates in Latin America. Over 20% of the people in Peru (6.5 million) have no access to electricity. Of these, 23% are from the national population and 67% are from the rural population. If they can afford it, families may get light from kerosene, candles, and batteries. On average, these cost each family $6 per month for 2 hours of electricity per day. Some families, especially in rural communities, do without extended daylight. This shortens their day considerably, as a typical day in Peru averages less than twelve hours of natural light, with the sun setting by 6:00pm.

Computers for Communities has started a campaign to bring SOLAR POWERED personal lights to these people in Peru. The lights are incredible, and just what they need! YOU CAN HELP by purchasing any amounts of the following lights. All purchases will be distributed DIRECTLY to students and families in communities that we have been working with in the mountains of Peru.
